Process

Consultation: Regardless of the session you want to book, we schedule a free client consultation with you that takes place via phone or video call (if you like, you can send us an email summarizing your project beforehand). In-person meetings are also available upon request.

During this time, we talk about the details of your project, including the shoot’s overall mood, goals, budget, target audience, scheduling, number of items to photograph, usage/licensing, delivery timeline and image requirements.

Estimate: Based on this information, we can provide a detailed estimate and propose a production plan that may include pre-shooting, location scouting, casting assistance, setup coordination, processing and image delivery. You may not have all the information during our initial consultation, so we work with you to outline options and put together a plan to tackle your project with confidence.

Booking: Once you accept the estimate and we have a good plan, we will send you a custom booking link and call sheet detailing the shooting schedule.

Advertising and Product Photography FAQs

What if I don’t know the overall theme I want to capture?

During the consultation, we work with you to understand your target audience, key values of your brand and lifestyle you deliver to your clients. Often times our clients show us images they found on the web or social media that inspire them and align with the overall mood they would like to capture. Based on this information, we propose a custom theme that reflects your brand’s aesthetic for your advertising campaign or catalog/lookbook.

Do I have to sign any paperwork?

Yes, both parties sign a contract; this helps with setting the right expectations and ensuring we are on the same page. Among other items, it details the project, delivery, and usage of images.

I would like the shoot to take place during normal business hours / over the weekend. Are you available?

The calendar can generally be adjusted to meet the client’s schedule and timelines (just give us enough notice).

Where will the advertising campaign and catalog shoot take place?

Depending on the theme you pick, the shoot can take place outside on location or in a studio setting.

How does the catalog package differ from the advertising campaign?

The catalog package features more products and all images are unified by one theme. For example, a collection of retail clothing shown above was united by an urban feel and minimalist color accents to highlight the garment’s unique cuts.

The advertising campaign package is focused on promoting your company, not a collection of products. The images are constructed to be more creatively infused and memorable.

Can I attend the shoot?

Absolutely, we encourage a representative or a few members of your team to attend the shoot. At the shoot you will be able to preview the images as they are being developed and tweak the production to make sure you get the content that you want.

Where will the product shoot take place?

The product photography always takes place in the studio setting. We can set up the studio at your site to help with the flow of the products, otherwise we are happy to work with you at our studio in Cleveland Heights.

Why is product photography important?

  1. Good product photography elevates your product so you can set premium prices and makes your brand recognizable.

  2. Consistency sells. Customers will stay on your website longer if products are photographed in a clean way and are easy to compare.

  3. The ability to view products from multiple angles cuts down on the cost of returns.

Do I need to use models for product photography?

Models show the customer how a product feels, its dimensions as well as portray the demographics of your target audience. Some products that benefit from being shown on a model are clothes, jewelry and accessories.

I only want to use mannequins for product photography. Can you accommodate this?

While we certainly shoot a good amount of products against a white background, we do not work with mannequins. We take pride in following current commercial and fashion photography trends that have recently been focused on highlighting inclusivity, humor and character, all of which are impossible to show without a model.

Do you provide models for photo shoots?

While we are happy to refer you to model agencies or assist with model casting, we are not responsible for contracting models. In some cases we may be able to reach out to models we have worked with in the past, but the booking would still have to go through the agency.

Who else should I book for the shoot?

It may be a good idea to secure a wardrobe stylist and make-up artist in addition to model(s) for your shoot.

What is the benefit of hiring a stylist for the shoot?

  • A stylist takes a list of products that you want to photograph and mixes it into outfits that appeal to your target audience.

  • A stylist is present during the shoot, prepares clothes and ensures they look good on the model (think creases, wrinkles, tucking shirts and picking the right props). This helps cuts down on time spent fixing images in post-production.

  • A stylist optimizes the rack and makes the shoot go faster, which means you can get your products in front of the customers sooner.

What if I have to match the style of product photography to the items that are already on my website?

In this event, we ask you to provide a style guide or submit a photo example from your website. We then evaluate the images for setup and lighting and can advise you on specifics and pricing of reproducing the style.

What kind of usage rights will I get to the photos?

We are happy to provide the images to use on your website/social media at no additional cost. Image rights for print or advertisement are negotiated separately.

What is a style guide in product photography?

A style guide is a visual manual that not only overviews the direction of the shoot, but also serves as a reference for the number of angles per each product type, product styling, possible model poses and image framing. Don’t worry if you haven’t thought through these details yet, we can help you with putting your own style guide together. By making these choices beforehand, you cut down on the photography production time and ensure all team members are on board with your vision.

What do I need to do to prepare for the product shoot?

We advise to develop a list of products you want to feature in the catalog or product shoot. After you finalize the products you want to highlight, they need to be assembled into outfits (at this point you may benefit from the input of a stylist).

An itemized shot list is developed, detailing the key items to photograph and any corresponding clothes or props to complete the look. We use this list during the shoot to make sure we photograph all products in the right combinations.

One day before the shoot, all items are removed from packaging (including tags) and ironed/steamed to be photographed.

Do you do photography for Instagram?

Yes, we work with clients on developing content for their social accounts, like Instagram and Facebook. For this type of assignment, we pay close attention to the brand’s identity and build out story telling through consistent images. We also take into the account your marketing collateral, customer personas, upcoming collaborations and promotions. We do this to build a strong visual language for your company, so when your customers see an image in their Instagram feed, they can instantly recognize your company. The Catalog package works best for this type of project and can be further customized to span multiple months or seasons.

Do you provide discounts to regular clients?

Yes, we offer a discounted rate for retailers and businesses that book 2 or more shoots per year with us. This often happens when you offer seasonal products or introduce new offerings to your clients throughout the year. It is also a great opportunity for businesses who rely on social media to increase sales, engage with clients and stay true to their visual language.
